Here, the Osaka lodestars weave No. 6 slub/nep yarns with No. 5 “super slubs” in a challenging, loom-busting process that results in a textured and charmingly irregular selvedge denim.
Before weaving, the warp yarns are meticulously and repeatedly dyed—Kasezome-style—in natural Kakishibu (fermented persimmon dye). This process imparts an earthy, muted amber cast that, when woven with the undyed super slub weft yarns, takes on a terracotta-like hue.
For those seeking further proof of Studio D’Artisan’s fastidious attention to detail, look no further than the jacket’s selvedge ID. Here, the SDA team has lovingly rendered a tiny Kakinoha (persimmon leaf) motif into the selvedge—a nod to the centuries-old Kakishibu dyeing tradition.
All of this is executed in a classic Type II silhouette—a workwear-style denim jacket featuring dual chest pockets, cast iron buttons, copper rivets, and those all-important knife pleats. A jacket truly deserving of its “Kyoku” (極, “pinnacle”) moniker.
