Founded in Okayama—the uncontested birthplace of Japanese selvedge denim—in 2006, Momotaro has spent almost two decades weaving fabrics as rich and revered as its legendary namesake.
The brand takes its name from the “Peach Boy” fable of Japan’s early Edo period, which tells the tale of a small child born from a giant peach who spends his days eating dumplings and hunting demons.
Folklore aside, Momotaro’s crowning glory is its legendarily soft and supple selvedge denim. This is due to the brand’s preference for Zimbabwe cotton, which is widely regarded as some of the finest cotton in the world.
Zimbabwe cotton’s long-staple fibers and hand-picked provenance produce a tough, lustrous denim that’s easy to break in. In addition to its superior comfort levels, a Zimbabwe cotton weave is also known to closely resemble the texture and aging properties of authentic Levi’s vintage denim fabrics.

The 0306 “Tight Tapered” Fit
The 0306 is Momotaro’s “Tight Tapered” fit. It’s a super slim cut with a medium rise, a snug thigh, and a gradual taper throughout the leg. While we wouldn’t use the term “skinny,” the 0306 certainly ranks among the slimmest and trimmest cuts we carry. It’s not a fit that will work for everyone; those with thicker or more athletic-set thighs might want to consider Momotaro’s more generous cuts. Overall though, the 0306 is a winner for those who prefer a stylish, modern fit that sits on the tighter side.

The 0405 “High Tapered” Fit
Compared to the 0306, Momotaro’s 0405 “High Tapered” fit sits higher on the hips and features a slightly more open thigh. While it still sits squarely at the slim end of the fit spectrum, the added wiggle room in the top block assures comfort while creating a more pronounced taper overall. It’s a very flattering fit – an excellent choice for those who value the added comfort of a higher rise. This fit is particularly popular with those with bigger thighs who still want that slim tapered look.

The 0605 “Relaxed Tapered” Fit
Also known as Momotaro's “Natural Tapered” fit, the 0605 comfortably falls into the relaxed tapered category. It features a mid-to-high rise with a leg that naturally follows the body's contours, making it exceptionally easy to wear and flattering on nearly everyone. The 0605 is a solid choice for those who appreciate a tapered fit but prefer a more relaxed overall look and feel.

The 0906 “Classic Straight” Fit
The widest and most generous of all our Momotaro cuts, the 0906 offers a classic straight-leg fit with a comfortable mid-to-high rise. This fit is ample through the entire leg and features a generously spacious hem. It’s a more classic look overall, and that wider leg opening means the 0906 accommodates boots, sneakers, and everything in between with equal style and ease.
